Abstract: Arrhythmias are disorders of the regular rhythmic beating of the heart. They may indicate a serious problem and lead to heart disease, stroke or sudden cardiac death. The aim of the research reported in this paper is to design and implement a portable monitoring and alerting telemedicine system for cardiac patients. Apart from conventional monitoring, the system that we have developed will be able to detect an arrhythmia and inform the patient|s condition by automatically sending an alerting SMS to the mobile phone of the doctor and caretaker.
