Abstract: Arrhythmias are disorders of the regular rhythmic beating of the heart. They may indicate a serious problem and lead to heart disease, stroke or sudden cardiac death. The aim of the research reported in this paper is to design and implement a portable monitoring and alerting telemedicine system for cardiac patients. Apart from conventional monitoring, the system that we have developed will be able to detect an arrhythmia and inform the patient's condition by automatically sending an alerting SMS to the mobile phone of the doctor and caretaker.
