Special Issue on: "Mechatronics in Manufacturing"

Guest Editors:
Professor Steven Liang, Georgia Institute of Technology, USA
Professor J.-J. J. Wang, National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan
Professor Xiaoping Li, National University of Singapore, Singapore

The enabling power of integrated sensing and actuating afforded by mechatronics technology not only has assumed the early role of relieving human beings of rudimentary, dull or hazardous tasks, but also has become an indispensable factor in the fabrication of world’s most advanced products and equipment. The goal of this special issue is to publish new ideas and the most recent developments in manufacturing related mechatronics technology as well as in education on mechatronics. As mechatronics technology is omnipresent in every stage of manufacturing activities from plant integration, automated equipment, process monitoring/control to nanoscale sensing and measurement, its multidisciplinary nature will be well reflected in the scope of this special issue.

Selected papers will be published from the 2nd International Forum of Systems and Mechatronics, 2007 (IFSM2007). One of the main focuses of the conference is to provide the opportunity for scholars from all over the world to discuss their academic programmes, identify research opportunities, and initiate joint research programmes in the area of manufacturing related mechatronics. However, the special issue is not limited to papers selected from this conference. It will accept submitted general papers on the topic, through the same general peer review processes.

Subject Coverage
The subject coverage of this special issue includes, but is not limited to, topics that address:
  • Mechatronics in mechanical manufacturing
  • Mechatronics in electronic manufacturing
  • Mechatronics in optoelectronic manufacturing
  • Mechatronics in production automation
  • Precision positioning and measurement Product and process modelling
