Special Issue on: “Trust Development and Management in Virtual Organisations”

Guest Editors:
Dr. Darren Mundy and Dr. Tanko Ishaya, University of Hull, UK

In the context of the continuing evolution of distributed computing technologies such as grid, peer to peer, web services and the rapid globalisation of the Internet, there comes a requirement for dynamic virtual organisations. These dynamic virtual organisations will be vastly scalable, span traditional borders (e.g. national and organisational) and share resources including knowledge to achieve common objectives. Within these virtual organisations, relationships whether implicit or explicit will exist between organisational members.

One of the supporting features of any functional virtual or non-virtual relationship is trust. The aim of this special issue of IJNVO is to focus on the development and management of trust in virtual organisations. Within this special issue we wish to investigate trust specific research questions such as:

  • What is trust and is virtual trust any different (from an organisational perspective)?
  • Are there existing mechanisms for building trust in virtual organisations?
  • What are the infrastructure requirements for building trusted virtual communities?
  • How can we manage trust relationships in virtual organisations?
  • What are the barriers to virtual trust development and management?

The contents of this special issue of IJNVO should be particularly relevant to academic and industrial partners involved in the development of virtual organisations in this rapidly advancing field.
