Selection of material for electric arc spraying by using hierarchical entropy-TOPSIS approach

Abstract: Electric arc spray (EAS) is a process used to solidify the molten metal on the substrate surface. The desired material is first melted due to current and voltage applied to the ends of two electrically conductive metal wires and then propelled on the desired surface. The present work suggests possible material alternatives that could enhance the properties of the EAS process. Entropy approach is used to give the weightage to the factors on which materials will be prioritised. TOPSIS method is applied to determine the ranking of each of the material which could happen to be a best feasible alternative. It is found that Tin, Zirconium and Titanium are top-ranked best feasible metals while as cadmium and calcium are the least priority. Thus, the results yield a platform to choose the best possible material as an alternative. The future scope of the work lies in the fact that an ideal solution as an alternative would help in increasing the quality of the capacitors besides saving the cost. The motive of every manufacturer is to achieve the right quality at the right price which is met by using these alternate materials during manufacturing.
