Application of information technology in ageing society: a pursuit of creative economy in Korea

Abstract: The primary purpose of this paper is to empirically examine traits of IT, their relationships with corporate strategies and their influences on corporate performance in Korea. The secondary purpose of this research is to identify which IT traits are the most powerful fuels that firms in ageing society can apply in pursuit of creative economy. Research findings confirm that IT provides competitive advantages such as efficiency, threat, functionality, attack and integration. And the study shows that traits of IT significantly contribute to corporate performance and play significant mediating roles between corporate strategies and corporate performance. Research findings indicate that IT traits of efficiency and integration are the two most competitive advantages that IT could provide. Corporate strategies have indirect effects on corporate performance through traits of IT. Cost leadership strategy shows stronger associations with traits of IT than differentiation strategy does.
