International Journal of Business Information Systems (IJBIS), Vol. 9, No. 2, 2012

Abstract: Enterprise resource planning (ERP) is a generic term for integrated systems. ERP projects are a subclass of software projects often accompanied by large-scale organisational changes. ERP attempts to integrate all departments and functions across a company onto a single computer system that can serve all the particular needs of those different departments. In this study, at first, the current research issues in ERP projects are studied and the performance indicators of ERP projects from the viewpoint of software engineering are identified from the literature. Then these research issues are validated through an exploratory case study. After that each one of these research issues is discussed under a separate segment. The article intends to serve two goals. First, it will be useful to researchers who are interested in understanding the present research problems in the area of ERP from the software engineering perspective. Second, the article will be a useful resource for the researchers to pursue research in the directions suggested here to provide solution to these research problems.
