Abstract: Ad hoc networks are becoming prevalent day to day as for their viability and reasonable infrastructure. With the exponentially increasing esteem, ad hoc networks are becoming vulnerable to various attacks. Wormhole attack is the most severe threat to the ad hoc networks, it can lure and bypass a large volume of traffic, enabling attacker to receive and wield networks traffic. This kind of entree to the network resources elevates invader to launch various other attacks. We propose a novel ant colony approach to detect the wormhole link by keeping a close watch on pheromone value on each BANT (backword ants which have food location and going back to its colony dropping pheromone). The proposed technique not only detects the wormhole link but elevates the networks performance to manifest its edge over other techniques.
