Abstract: A simulation model of a dynamic flowshop with missing operations is developed in plant simulation software having throughput, mean flow time (MFT), and work-in-process (WIP) as performance measures. The problem is to investigate the best dispatching rule and sub-lot size under lot streaming. Eight dispatching rules are considered under three levels of critical-machine utilisation (57%, 79%, and 87%). The measures are tested for significance using ANOVA and only MFT and WIP are found significant. The smaller sub-lot performs better for all the dispatching rules. At a higher utilisation level, FIFO performs best. GRA technique is applied to 79% utilisation level and results reveal FIFO performing best.
