Approach to manufacturing resource description based on metadata in cloud manufacturing

Abstract: Cloud manufacturing is a new model of service-oriented networked manufacturing. Encapsulating the physical manufacturing resources to virtual resources and completing the description of manufacturing resources are the keys and the basis to realise comprehensive sharing of resources, but there is no uniform method at present. Metadata is the basic tool to organise the data information, and is the data set which is used to describe the information resources online, to strengthen the search, development, organisation and utilisation of network resources. In combination with the special characteristics of manufacturing resources and the advantages of metadata, the paper offers the definition and category of manufacturing resources, proposes the method of manufacturing resources description based on metadata, XML mark-up language is used to define in detail. In the end, the effectiveness of this method is verified through cases.
