Abstract: In this paper, we present a study on the end-to-end performance of dual-hop wireless communication systems equipped with semi-blind amplify-and-forward (AF) relays. Channels between source/relay terminals and relay/destination terminals are assumed to be independent, but not necessarily identically distributed, η-μ fading. Novel expressions for the Moment Generating Function (MGF), outage probability (OP) and generalised moments of the end-to-end Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) are explicitly derived. The influence of power imbalance, fading parameters, and average SNR between the hops on the overall system performance (in terms of average end-to-end SNR, OP, and average bit error rate) is studied through several representative numerical examples. The accuracy of the proposed mathematical analysis is verified via computer simulations.
