Abstract: The author describes the design and function of modern European trailers and semitrailers. He mainly concentrates on the air suspension design principle, but also looks at conventional leaf spring suspension. The advantages and disadvantages of modern air suspensions are discussed and compared with conventional leaf spring suspensions.
