Abstract: The self-welding susceptibility of Cr-plated 2.25Cr-1Mo steel with Inconel 82 weld metal, with and without Cr-plating, has been evaluated in flowing sodium at 823 K for three and six months under contact stress of 3.0 MPa. Tests were performed on flat-on-flat geometry of hollow cylindrical specimens under compression. No self-welding was observed in either test for either material combination. Scanning electron micrographs of the tested specimens showed no damage in the surface. The paper discusses the experimental set-up and the results of self-welding susceptibility studies on these material combinations.
