Research on temporal and spatial evolution of comprehensive efficiency of technology innovation and carbon emission in China

Abstract: Spatiotemporal evolution of comprehensive efficiency of technology innovation and carbon emission in China from 2010 to 2019 is presented in this paper. The average comprehensive efficiency of China is 0.779, with the highest value being in the east region and the lowest in the middle region. It shows great regional differences in both comprehensive efficiency and sub-stage efficiency. The annual variations of sub-stages show different characteristics. The lower efficiency of the technology innovation stage is on the rise while the higher efficiency of the carbon emission stage is the opposite. The overall total factor productivity (TFP) of China is 0.995, and is down by 0.55%. There is still an uptrend in TFP since 2016. The average TFP in the three regions is more than one. The lack of coordination between the two sub-stages is glaring. After decomposition, the efficiency change in the technology innovation stage and the technology change in the carbon emission stage should be focused on.
