Abstract: The world's energy consumption has risen drastically in the last few decades due to the fast-growing population and urbanisation. Most of the world's energy demand is met by traditional fuels up to date, but these sources are not everlasting. Also, the price of oil is increasing continuously. The world is witnessing drastic climatic changes like global warming, an increase in sea level; extreme weather changes that result in adverse health and environmental consequences. To come out of these problems, scientists all around the world have embraced renewable energy sources as a substitute energy source. Renewable energy sources have unpredictable power output. Therefore, it is better to use renewable sources in hybrid mode, so that they can counterbalance the indiscriminate nature of each other. Hybridisation of renewable energy sources is a complex nonlinear problem and needs optimal designing. Researchers have adopted different optimisation techniques. This study summarises different optimisation techniques used so far which helps readers to find suitable option.
