Abstract: The importance of maintenance functions in manufacturing organisations is never been relaxed though maintenance functions are not directly contributing for value addition in product development and marketing. Maintenance functions become vital and consume huge money, because if ignored will lead to machine failures, inconsistent product quality and unsafe operations. Nowadays, organisations emphasise on well-organised maintenance management system to ensure maximum utilisation of complex, modern and high cost production machines at a minimum maintenance cost. Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) is an effective tool for practicing company wide maintenance functions that provides necessary maintenance related data to assess the performance of production machines. Based on the computer generated customised reports, causes of machine failures and maintenance delays are analysed using the Risk Management Techniques (RMTs) after which necessary corrective actions are taken to reduce them. In this paper, performance of a fin rolling machine, software development, implementation of CMMS and effects of implementation in an automotive radiator-manufacturing organisation located in Tamilnadu, India is presented.
