ICSHGE18: Special Issue on: "Multidisciplinary Trends for Sustainable Societies"

Guest Editor:
Prof. Giuseppe T. Cirella, Polo Centre of Sustainability, Italy and University of Gdansk, Poland

A wide array of multi-disciplinary research activities, within the scope of two themes, examines human-nature relations and trends for sustainable societies: sustainability and interdisciplinary societal studies. The varying disciplines behind sustainability research primarily emerged from the severe global events that had and were unfolding approximately a quarter century ago; evidence from the literature exemplifies this by a large amount of concepts and techniques that have been tested and continue to be tested within varying interdisciplinary fields.

At present, the forefront of sustainability research endeavours to adapt qualitative and quantitative sustainability concepts into methods that take into account past, present and future pathways. Research into sustainable societies needs to be sound, ethical and creative. The ideal is for cleaner, safer societies - with sustainably higher standards of living - to excel in supporting current and future generational communities. From this standpoint, it is hopeful that any furthering of knowledge is accessible and shared to achieve maximum innovation and benefit. Focus and delivery is on a broad array of sustainability inputs primarily from industry, government and academia.

The objective of this special issue is to bring together and focalise multi-disciplinary research contributions within the scope of these two themes. Researchers are invited to contribute original research articles that look at and understand novel knowledge bases central to activities that promote sustainability in relation to sound societal development. The issue will carry revised and substantially extended versions of selected papers presented at the 2nd International Conference on Sustainability, Human Geography and Environment 2018 (ICSHGE18); however, researchers unable to participate in the conference are strongly encouraged to submit articles for this call. Articles will exemplify novelty, technical depth, elegance, practical or theoretic impact and presentation.
