Medical and healthcare informatics is an interdisciplinary and scientific field. It deals with developing and applying advanced methods in order to better understand and improve healthcare via the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease, illness, injury and other physical and mental impairments in human beings.

This special issue will explore theoretical, practical and technical issues in the evolution of medical informatics. Research on applications of prevention, prediction and prognosis topics is welcome. Practical experiences and experiments in using business intelligence, machine learning and data mining with healthcare information technologies are also welcome. We look forward to contributions from academics, researchers and educators worldwide.
