Digital literacies, skills and competencies are central to the use of smart technologies in order to master current digital transformation. In diverse learning sectors, from school classrooms to higher education lecture halls, from workplace learning to professional development, advanced digital skills and competencies are progressively implied in smart learning and teaching processes with increasing expectancies.

This special issue is aimed at presenting empirical research, reviews of the literatures and meta-analyses and syntheses of multiple studies, or conceptual studies about how the current landscape of smart education is transforming the state of digital literacies. Technical, cognitive, psychological, social and ethical skills and competencies are increasingly involved in shaping pedagogical frameworks also in the interplay of formal, no formal and informal learning. We are looking forward for submissions that identify gaps in research and practice, as well as those that raise new research questions and develop issue deserving further investigation.
