Abstract: The Information technology in India, while enjoying a 30% growth in the last four decades, had its own challenges in terms of competition from new markets like China, Indonesia etc.; pressure to reduce costs, etc. Adding to this issue is the increasing attrition rates, pushed by increasing demand for resources. With pressure of cost on one side and need to reduce turnover on other side, organisations are looking beyond monetary measures to retain an engaged work force. The current study attempts to gauge the contribution of psychological contract and psychological empowerment to employee engagement and thereby to turnover intention.

Keywords: engagement; psychological contract; psychological empowerment; turnover intention; Indian IT industry.
