Abstract: In the present experimental study of up-grinding of Ti-6Al-4V using alumina wheel, a new technique, restricted quantity lubrication (RQL) is proposed, during which the flow rate is reduced considerably using an in-house developed simple, economic and efficient coolant delivery setup. Tangential and normal components of grinding forces have been accurately measured using strain gauge type dynamometer. The typical surface roughness parameters have been preciously measured and the grinding ratio has been evaluated after execution of 20 passes, keeping the infeed constant at 10 μm during every pass. Surface quality of the ground substrate and the chip-forms have been observed under high resolution microscope. The results are compared with the grinding of same material using identical process parameters, however, under flood cooling condition and also in dry environment. The suitability of RQL-based miniature pump setup during grinding of Ti-6Al-4V using alumina wheel has been critically analysed and presented herein.
