Abstract: Maintenance is inevitable and each machine requires maintenance after certain interval of time. There are several maintenance policies catering to maintenance needs of manufacturing organisations. The bottom line is that, several issues together govern the selection of a particular maintenance policy. So, in order to understand the factors responsible for selection of particular maintenance policy an empirical study is carried out. In this research paper thirty six issues in maintenance are identified using available literatures and questionnaire survey conducted on industry practitioners and is analysed using t-test, factor analysis and Friedman's test. Factor analysis is carried out to summarise the large number variable into set of few comprehensible factors and then Friedman's test is performed to rank those factors according to the various identified maintenance policy in order to identify the critical factors playing important role in selection of a particular maintenance policy. The study is carried out in the Indian manufacturing sector.
