Abstract: Maintainability is considered as one of the fundamental quality aspect that promotes efficient software systems development. By using soft computing techniques maintainability can be easily estimated and provide effective result. This paper describes some key factors that influence the maintainability of software as presented by different researchers. In the software maintainability estimation these factors play a fundamental role. Proper study and inclusion of these factors may make the maintainability estimation clearer and easier. The maintainability models may be used to find enhanced quality of the software so that maintenance can be performed effectively and efficiently.

Keywords: maintainability; software quality; maintainability factors.
