Abstract: The small- and medium-sized enterprises development analyses by regions during the last years in Bulgaria are presented. It includes analyses of the small- and medium-sized enterprises number, structure by size, number of employers, tangible fixed assets and density. The most important SME indicators – labour productivity, liability, net profitability – and the main barriers to enterprises activity have pointedly been influencing their development progress. The energy efficiency areas of interests in SMEs in food, beverages and tobacco industry have been pointed out. The main priorities of national strategy of SMEs development stimulation have been presented.
