Abstract: One of the characteristic features of the 21st century global marketplace is the emergence of free market enterprises in economies where such firms were previously unknown in terms of mainstream business activities. While this represents tremendous opportunities, both in terms of economic development and for participating individuals, the transition from centrally planned economies to free market economies can not take place overnight. This paper considers the process of emerging entrepreneurship in Eastern Europe and discusses both theoretical and managerial implications. This means understanding the characteristics of these markets is vital for any firms attempting to successfully operate in these markets.

Keywords: entrepreneurship; emerging markets; Eastern Europe; transitional economies; new business creation; free markets; management practice.
