Abstract: The cooling stage is of particular importance to the formation of the final microstructure and the characteristics of the heat-treated product, so performing it properly is one of the prerequisites for obtaining high quality and mechanical properties. The aim of the present study is to examine heat exchange, conduct a practical test and obtain quantitative assessment of product hardness and distortion after conventional and vacuum quenching of cylindrical steel parts.

Keywords: hardness; distortion; quenching ability; quenching oil; cooling media; vacuum heat treatment; cooling conditions; steel quenching; microstructure; cylindrical components.
