Abstract: The life of flexible pavement depends on properties of the subgrade soil and traffic volume density. Clayey soils are considered to be problematic due to its swelling and shrinkage characteristics. To overcome this problem it is necessary to stabilise the clayey soil. The present study deals with stabilisation of subgrade soil by using stone dust and RBI Grade 81 as additives. The RBI Grade 81 is a soil stabiliser. The mixes of soil: stone dust: RBI Grade 81 in different proportions was tested in the laboratory for determination of maximum dry density (MDD), optimum moisture content (OMC), California bearing ratio (CBR) value, unconfined compressive strength (UCS) and differential free swell (DFS) index. The geotechnical properties of clayey soil are improved due to addition of stone dust and RBI Grade 81. The mix of soil: stone dust: RBI Grade 81 for proportion of 76:20:04 shows satisfactory improvement in the geotechnical properties.
