Abstract: The idea of a United States of Africa is a prerequisite for economic progression in Africa. Essentially this is a challenge for economic integration. The realisation of a strong regional grouping is a pipedream in view of the political instability, lack of trust and too many institutions claiming to champion integration leading to a fragmented approach. It is recommended that a powerful African Union with powers to whip into line its membership on both economic and political aspects would lead to the realisation of the aspirations for integration.
