Abstract: The paper aims to develop an electronic prosthetic hand by using 3D modelling and additive manufacturing techniques. The proposed development provides the cost-effective electronic prosthetics based on the open innovation strategy which makes everyone to develop an electronic prosthetic hand by using open source hardware, software and design with competitive costs. The electronic prosthetic hand has been digitally designed to reconstruct of a left artificial hand. The paper describes the successful application of the rapid prototyping with the combination of various openly available technologies and it has been developed as the teaching case for innovation and/or entrepreneurship courses. All elements of the business development are the live case of the open innovation and the paper demonstrates how the product could be cost-effectively designed based on the rapid prototyping.
