Abstract: In this paper, a new conceptual framework for the automated creation of reports, in this application case of TCO report, from the properties of the physical layout of a product or service is proposed. A methodology is proposed in order to formalise the analysis, design and development of a platform based on semantic web technologies in order to facilitate automated report generation. A semantic model is developed in order to capture the knowledge in the domain of TCO. Semantic web technologies are used for knowledge extraction, management, sharing and visualisation of the data gathered from excel sheets. The final result is a flexible and quickly extensible ontology model, connecting the physical representation of the future asset with the report, accompanied by a host of semantic tools for supporting interoperability, customisation and information visualisation for TCO-related reports.

Keywords: automated report generation; total cost of ownership; TCO; semantic web technologies; data linking; information visualisation; semantic modelling; knowledge extraction; knowledge management; knowledge sharing; knowledge visualisation; ontology; interoperability; customisation.
