Abstract: The edge preparation of tools increases tool performance, which has an important role in the manufacturing process. The drag finishing process has several input parameters which have an effect on the quality of the prepared tools. During this case study, the parameters of this edge preparation process were investigated and a phenomenological mathematical model was developed in order to estimate the edge radius of the examined twist drill. The calculated model created with design of experiments (DOE) is appropriate for setting the parameters of the edge preparation device in order to achieve the desired edge radius for twist drills.
