Abstract: This paper presents the application of recently developed oppositional gravitational search algorithm (OGSA) to place various types of DGs in radial distribution line. The aim of this research work is to determine the optimal size and location of DG in order to minimise power loss, voltage deviation and maximise voltage stability index of radial distribution system. The proposed OGSA is demonstrated on 12-bus, 34-bus and 69-bus radial distribution system and results are compared with conventional GSA and other techniques available in the literature. The results show the usefulness of the proposed method on small and medium scale distribution systems.

Keywords: radial distribution systems; distributed generators; power loss reduction; evolutionary algorithms; oppositional gravitational search; optimal size; optimal location; voltage deviation; voltage stability; generator location.
