Abstract: Detecting Multiple Sclerosis (MS) lesions from Magnetic Resonance (MR) images can facilitate early diagnosis and patient follow-up with the help of diagnosing MS disease. The author developed a novel approach in three tier architecture to detect the lesions as potential biomarkers. This approach requires pre-processing, skull stripping and object based 3D-region growing segmentation. We validate the method on MR images of multiple sclerosis patients by comparing its results with those of human expert segmentation. Thus, this approach will be a promising tool for assisting automatic identification of MS lesions and advancing mechanism studies of neurological and psychiatric diseases.
