Abstract: The research goal of this paper is to study the factors affecting the optical performance of chromium colour glass. This green-yellow glass is to be produced from the glass raw materials, Na2O-CaO-SiO2, as fundamental material with addition of chromium oxide (Cr2O3) as colourant. The analysis of spectrum transmittance and chroma index has been carried out on the plates of this green-yellow glass by equipment. Results indicate that the optical performance and chroma index of this green-yellow melted glass are largely dependent on the factors such as concentration of colourants, oxidisability-reducibility of mixed batch and fundamental materials. When the quantity of Cr2O3 was in the range from 0.05% to 0.15%, the light transmittance decreased with increasing quantities of Cr2O3. When the concentration of carbon dust of mixed batch was decreased, the colouring effects improved.
