Abstract: In contrast with the conventional vehicle, the four-wheel-drive (4WD) electric vehicle (EV) has significantly different stiffness and damping coefficients in its driveline because the motor is directly connected with the tyre hub. Moreover, the torque response of the permanent-magnet synchronous motor is about much faster than that of the engine. When the EV is subjected to the fierce acceleration, the torque is abruptly applied to the tyre hub. As a result, oscillations will occur in the driveline. In addition, oscillations may also exist when there are torque disturbances of which frequency is near the driveline natural frequency. In this paper, the dynamic interaction on the tyre/road interface is described by the non-linear relaxation length-based model and the Magic formula pragmatic model. A fuzzy logic torque control system is proposed to suppress the oscillation in the driveline. The simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed control system.
