Abstract: The presence of electric vehicles (EVs) on the market will increase in the next decades, which will require the generation of more electricity and the development of the current power system in order to prevent overloading of electric system components and other problems. To avoid further degradation due to the loading conditions of distribution transformers at peak load time, smart charging scenarios for EVs (which consist of dispatching charging operations) associated with direct load control (DLC) actions are proposed in this paper.

Keywords: overload magnitude; electrical water heaters; DLC; direct load control; electric vehicle charging; electric vehicles; distribution transformers; peak load time; smart charging; battery charging.
