Abstract: To detect the presence of multipath, the received signal is tested to know whether it contains only one path or multiple paths. In this paper, a problem for detecting the presence of multipath under three different situations has been formulated and their detection statistics have been derived. Simulation study has also been carried out for each case. It is observed from the Receiver Operating Characteristics (ROC) of the detector that there is a trade-off between the Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) and the a priori information available about the channel and the transmitted signal.
