Abstract: This study represents a sliding mode control method (SMC) to improve the ride comfort of a railway vehicle with flexible body. The uncomfort and flexibility effects that arise as a consequence of the vehicle body vibrations are minimised using the SMC method. This control method is robust and easily applicable to non-linear systems. Two actuators are located at the front and rear secondary suspension pivot points to reduce the vertical and angular vibrations of the body. This study also compares the controlled and uncontrolled body behaviour by using both their time and frequency responses.
