This paper contributes to the theme by detailing the features to be considered in an open innovation project using the internet and evaluates the approach of these portals in Brazil vis-à-vis such features. The procedures used were a literature review to identify these features and a documentary analysis to evaluate three open innovation portals. The research identified seven important features for open innovation projects that use the internet. The analysis of the portals confirmed the importance of these features and revealed that information on them is scattered throughout the portals.
