Abstract: The Polish system of higher education is facing numerous challenges related to the advancement of digital civilisation and rapid evolution of other external conditions. An adequate response is impossible without reliable information on the processes running on in higher education institutions; hence the need for benchmarking methods. Following the European trends, the research on benchmarking was undertaken by the PRF-IKS within a series of five projects, initiated in 2007. Hereby, two of them - on benchmarking of processes related to internal quality assurance systems and the flexibility of studies - are presented, after general introduction and basic concepts of benchmarking in higher education.
Keywords: higher education; innovation; benchmarking; internal quality assurance; studies flexibility; learning; Poland.
