Abstract: The development and advancement of mobile communication and social media technology have altered the ways individuals and groups interact with each other and go about their daily life. This has impacted on culture, society and politics by providing different means of communication, socialisation, business and education. This paper explores the interactivity mechanism and activities/processes of social media networking (SMN) in relation to learning and education. It identifies SMN properties, components and factors that lend themselves naturally to learning interactions and highlights possible challenges requiring the attention of educators and educational institutions. Finally, the paper concludes with a proposed list of guidelines to assist educators in planning and integrating SMN activities in curriculum.
