Abstract: In digitalisation process of the thin-walled components with curved surface, the local areas often cannot be scanned owing to the complexity of the components or the imperfect scanning process, which leads to the generation of hole areas and seriously affects the surface modelling quality and precision. It is significant to study the sample point repairing method to guarantee the point cloud meeting modelling requirements. An effective point cloud repairing method for free-form curved surface is proposed. Based on solid filling method, each scanning line unit of the point cloud is repaired, and then the holes and the uneven distribution areas in the point cloud are repaired totally. Experimental results show that the effect of repairing is good and the point cloud after repairing maintains the rectangular topological structure. The research work makes preparation for the subsequent B-spline surface modelling and precise machining of the thin-walled components with curved surface.
