Abstract: Environmental conscience has moved beyond being merely rhetoric to a serious business consideration. Environmental deterioration is a fact of life for the bulk of the industrialised and third world. While the proliferation of domestic and industrial products has led to problems of waste disposal, existing manufacturing and disposal technologies leave a lot to be desired in terms of reducing adverse impact on the environment. Problems pertaining to environmental depletion range from air and water pollution to ozone depletion to irresponsibly disposed radioactive waste as landfill. Not only the repercussions on health of such actions but also the danger to a vast number of other species have been stressed time and again. It is high time that proactive solutions to environmental hazards be considered. This paper highlights the need to address the environmental deterioration issue and reviews a variety of means to prevent it.
