Abstract: Over the last few years, wireless communications have experienced rapid growth in the demand for high data rate multimedia services. This fact motivates to improve the spectrum efficiency of wireless systems. Smart antennas have emerged as a promising technology to enhance the spectrum efficiency wireless systems by exploiting the spatial domain. The performance of the smart antenna depends upon its signal processing block, which contains an adaptive algorithm. In this work, three algorithms; adaptive amplitude normalised gradient decent (AANGD), complex least mean square (CLMS) and augmented CLMS (ACLMS) are considered which are proved to be suitable for beam forming. Two hybrid algorithms are also proposed by considering these three algorithms as heuristics. The mean square error (MSE) for three heuristics and hybrid algorithms is computed. A Smart Antenna system is simulated, and MSE convergence is observed to be improved by the hybridisation of CLMS and ACLMS algorithms over individual algorithms.
