Abstract: The drop in price of computers over the last few years, as well as the abundance of software packages and services offered by third parties, have consequences for occupational trends in DP departments. Several studies reveal that the participation of in-house DP personnel in developing software is on the decline. In these circumstances, a new strategy for DP managers could be the development of software to support the strategic decisions of their firms.
