Title: Challenges for electronic data interchange in becoming a global competitive tool

Abstract: Lately, managers have been waving the flag about electronic data interchange (EDI) as a |strategic weapon| in global competition. It is an innovative tool useful for accurate and timely interchange of business information. The major focus of EDI is |business| related, not technology related. In this paper, these |business| related issues, their complexity and challenges for harmonisation in the global business context are discussed.
