Abstract: Nearly all research on group decision support systems has been conducted using English-speaking groups as subjects. This paper reports on how a group of native Japanese students used a group decision support system to brainstorm, first using Japanese and then using English. The group was less satisfied when communicating in Japanese because of the difficulty of typing through an English QWERTY keyboard. Further advances in interface design and more experience typing in Japanese may increase satisfaction with the system.
