Abstract: The study reported in this paper deals with the development of a four-wheel model for evaluating the tyre forces and dynamic condition of a vehicle up to the threshold of skidding or rollover. The vehicle is treated as a rigid body supported by springs at the position of each wheel. The Linear Programming algorithm is employed to evaluate the dynamic behaviour of the vehicle and the normal forces on the tyres under different road and operating conditions. The model can also be used to evaluate the longitudinal and lateral tyre forces necessary for ensuring the stability of the vehicle with a four-wheel steering and braking system.

Keywords: dynamic equilibrium; elastically supported rigid bodies; linear models; tyre modelling; Simplex Method; tyre force components; unbalanced force and moment; vehicle skidding; vehicle rollover; vehicle stability; four-wheel steering; braking.
