Abstract: In order to analyse vehicle response to steering input, the eight degrees of freedom simulation model including detailed steering system with stiffness, friction and power assist characteristics is developed, and consequently gives enough accuracy to estimate vehicle performance. This paper shows that the precise simulation describes the influence of some vehicle design specifications upon the steering wheel angle-torque properly in the Lissajous figure, and shows why the angle-torque characteristic changes as driving speed and value of the specifications become larger and smaller.
