Title: The minibus - some financial and operational observations

Authors: R. Montgomery

Addresses: Director of Bus Operations, South Yorkshire Transport Ltd, UK

Abstract: A minibus is defined as: small (about 20 seats, but preferably slightly fewer); usually a van conversion to minimise cost; used to secure optimal financial return. The history of the development and use of the minibus in the UK in the years 1984-86 is given. Despite a falling away in its use in recent years, the minibus is likely to become a popular solution to many urban transport problems, once all the factors in its favour are taken into account.

Keywords: bus frequency; capital investment; maintenence costs; minibus; operating costs; urban transport; UK; United Kingdom.
